What is a Smart Battery?
A smart battery has an internal microprocessor circuit that allows the battery to “think.“ This thinking takes the form of communicating valuable charge and discharge information to your computer. For example, the smart battery communicates with the computer’s battery fuel gauge.
1- An internal
microprocessor circuit communicates important charge/ discharge information
with your computer. These circuits provide useful information like the
battery charge levels, and provide an extra level of security.
2- A poly-switch is a self resetting
protection device much like a circuit breaker. If your battery accidentally
short circuits, the poly-switch interrupts the charge circuit.
3- As the computer charges the battery
cells, the temperature increases. A thermistor changes the resistance,
signaling the computer to stop charging the battery pack when temperature
dictates.
4- For extra security against short-circuit
damage to your computer or battery pack, fuses are also added to your
smart battery.
5- If the signal from your computer
is not received during the charging, a self-setting thermal breaker will
prevent the battery pack from being over-charged.
